Taught Courses

Food Preservation Technology CBE658

This course introduces the factors that can cause food spoilage and the different techniques of food preservation which are commonly applied in the food industry, ranging from conventional to the most current technologies. The course also covers the principles, the description of the processes and equipment involved for these different techniques.

Separation Processes CHE544

This subject introduces the students to one of the fundamental knowledges that the students must acquire in separation theory with respect to mass transfer principles in various unit operation such as distillation, liquid-liquid extraction, leaching, membrane separation and crystallization. Students are also will be exposed to engineering tools to solve the engineering calculations especially related to separation processes.

Food Process Engineering CBE698

This course introduces students to the processes and unit operations in the food processing industries. The topics which have been selected will provide coverage on broad areas of processes and unit operations within food processing industries, including: mechanical processing and separations, thermal treatment process, evaporation and drying, refrigeration and freezing, and food packaging.

Mass Transfer CHE545

This subject introduces the students to one of the fundamental knowledge that the students must acquire in mass transfer and mass transfer operations. The topics covered include the concepts of mass transfer and equipment design for gas absorption, adsorption and drying. Students are also will be exposed to engineering tools to solve the engineering calculations especially related to mass transfer problems.

Chemical Process Principles II CHE531

This course introduces the factors that can cause food spoilage and the different techniques of food preservation which are commonly applied in the food industry, ranging from conventional to the most current technologies. The course also covers the principles, the description of the processes and equipment involved for these different techniques.

Reaction Engineering Laboratory CHE506

This course involves series of experiments that deals with the principles and concepts of chemical and biochemical reaction engineering. Upon completion of this course based on the theoretical and practical principles of chemical and biochemical reaction engineering, students should be able to: 1. Organise laboratory procedures and understand the working principles of experimental units in order to conduct experimental works successfully and safely either individually or in a group. 2. Evaluate experimental data and relate with the fundamental theories and concepts related to chemical and biochemical reaction engineering.

Chemistry Laboratory CHE485

This course introduces series of experiments that deals with the principles and concepts of chemistry. Sudents are exposed to the practical of the chemical processes and apparatus involved for different techniques.
